Introducing the Vertical Barn: A Growing Revolution at Applegarth

At Applegarth, we’re always looking for innovative ways to grow, create, and share the best food with our community. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce the launch of The Vertical Barn—a cutting-edge growing facility that’s set to transform how we produce, cook, and share our food.

The Vertical Barn allows us to embrace vertical farming, a sustainable and space-efficient method of growing fresh produce year-round. Using state-of-the-art technology from Tower Garden and InvertiGro, we’re now able to cultivate everything from vibrant microgreens and culinary herbs to gourmet mushrooms and other specialty crops—all right here on-site.



Why Vertical Farming?
Vertical farming is a game-changer for us. It allows us to grow more in less space, with significantly reduced water usage and no need for harmful pesticides. The result? Cleaner, fresher, and tastier produce, grown just steps away from our restaurant kitchen and retail shelves. By integrating this technology, we’re bringing hyper-local, sustainable farming to the heart of Applegarth.

How It Fits into What We Do
The Vertical Barn perfectly complements our ethos of producing honest, high-quality food. Whether it’s fresh herbs to elevate our restaurant dishes, microgreens to top a deli salad, or gourmet mushrooms featured in our specials, the produce grown in the barn will play a central role across our menus.

In our farm shop and online, you’ll soon find a new range of homemade items, created using ingredients grown in the Vertical Barn. Think vibrant pestos, punchy chimichurri, umami-packed mushroom ketchup, and nourishing tinctures—all bursting with the flavours of Applegarth and made with love by our team.

A UK First
We’re proud to say that Applegarth is leading the way. The Vertical Barn is a first-of-its-kind project in the UK, putting us at the forefront of sustainable, hyper-local farming. This isn’t just about food—it’s about a new way of thinking, growing, and connecting with the land around us.
